COVID-19 Update
July 1, 2020-
To our SLOC family:
It is with a heavy heart that we are posting this message to let you know that SLOC will be cancelling the entirety of the 2020-2021 season. This decision was made following New York State guidelines, and taking into account all of the rapidly changing information coming in from around the country. The health and safety of our cast, crew, volunteers, and patrons is our highest priority, and SLOC is simply unable to guarantee that at this time. We know we will be facing great uncertainty throughout the fall and winter, and making this decision now allows us to conserve our resources and focus on new ways of staying connected to our community.
Please know that while we may be cancelling our mainstage shows, we are by no means closing the doors of the company. We are in constant communication with Board and Leadership members and are looking at ways to innovate, create, and continue to produce and distribute the high-quality entertainment you have come to expect..
We look forward to coming back stronger than ever as we prepare plans for our 2021-2022 season. However, we know that will not be possible without your support. Our income is primarily generated through ticket sales, so we are facing an unprecedented financial crisis. If you would like to make a tax-deductible donation to SLOC, please visit www.sloctheater.org/donate. You can also show your support by remaining connected to us on social media, as we share information about upcoming events. More announcements will be made in the weeks to come!
SLOC has not cancelled a season since World War II. We know the leadership at that time felt the same responsibility we feel now, to weather this crisis and get us through to the other side. We have withstood 94 years of change and we know that with your support, our rich history will continue. This is not goodbye, but rather a brief intermission. We will still see you this season, albeit in a different format, and we can’t wait to see you all in person back in our building.
With thanks,
Schenectady Light Opera Company Board of Directors
