The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee is a one act musical comedy conceived by Rebecca Feldman with music and lyrics by William Finn, a book by Rachel Sheinkin and additional material by Jay Reiss. The show centers on a fictional spelling bee set in a geographically ambiguous Putnam Valley Middle School. Six quirky adolescents compete in the Bee, run by three equally-quirky grown-ups.

An unusual aspect of the show is that four real audience members are invited on stage to compete in the spelling bee alongside the six young characters.

SLOC's "25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee"on Schenectady Today

"Spelling Bee" has been given two TANYS awards as follows:

Meritorious Achievement to Grace McCarthy in Direction of Putnam County Spelling Bee

Meritorious Achievement to the Cast of The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee in Ensemble work.

Adjudicator's Comment: SLOC’s production of The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee brought back memories of my High School days. The singing and the dancing displayed by this cast was both beautiful to listen to and a joy to watch. The cast did a great job of portraying the trials and the tribulations of high school students. A nice balance of the joys, dreams and fears teenagers have going through High School.

The above award(s) will be given out at our annual TANYS festival banquet the Saturday before Thanksgiving (2014) , in Auburn, New York. Recipients are strongly encouraged to attend. This is an exceptional opportunity to be recognized for your noteworthy work in front of many colleagues from all across New York State. It is my sincere hope that you and your company will be able to take advantage of this fun filled evening.
